Finally downloaded "Red" and watched it today... Almost completely unspoiled! Yay! And I'm thinking that I'll manage to be *totally* unspoiled for the next one. I don't even know the name (no, don't tell me!)
I haven't read anyone else's reviews yet, so I really don't know what y'all thought of it. But heh. I have mixed feelings about this one. Something about this ep bugged me, and I can't put my finger on what. I'll give it a try, though.
Maybe it's the whole "showing your true self" theme that's been done over and over again, first in Hug with Lex, then in Nicodemus with Lana and Bo... err, Jonathan, and now in Red with Clark. And don't get me wrong, those two other eps were fine, but Red just didn't work for me.
First of all, just watching Clark be *mean* was... weird. I know, I know, that was the point. And I really enjoyed irresponsible!Clark (woohoo! Motorcycle, leather and clubbing! I bet he'd talk dirty, too, if this weren't a WB Show *g* Talk about feeding fic writers' muses...), but not evil!Clark. Must be my "Clark's supposed be a boyscout" mentality. I'll get over it... I think TW did a good job, BTW. Only problem was that sometimes when he wanted to look sexy or cunning or evil, he instead looked kind of sleepy... *g*
Then there's the fact that, while everyone else (Lex, Lana, Bo) had the benefit of not remembering anything that they did afterwards, Clark knows all the stupid things he did and said, and that just made me so sad for him. That must suck. Not to mention the fact that he couldn't really explain *why* that happened to him... I hated Lana for not forgiving him, but the truth is, if I were in her shoes, I wouldn't either. Poor Clark! I wanted to hug *him* this time, instead of Lex... Um, I could settle for both, though :)
As for the rest... I enjoyed Papa Luthor's whining, the way he left the office mumbling. Made me giggle :) Also enjoyed the Clex scenes very much. They were going to move in together! I was so disappointed that they didn't. They could at *least* have shown the penthouse... Ah well. We'll see it eventually (I hope).
One major nitpick: what was with that sledgehammer? I just didn't get it. If they were going to use kryptonite to get Clark sick and weak, why didn't they just take the ring off of him, and *then* smash it? And who defends themselves from a sledgehammer by putting out a fist? That just didn't make sense. At all.
Ok... I'll go read what y'all thought about the ep now :)
