It's hot. Hothothothothot. Temperature of 36C is waaaaay too hot for early spring (just guessing, but I think that's about 96F). Damn El Niño... I wonder what actual summer will be like.
So, in accordance with the weather, yesterday I watched "Heat" :) I'll do my best not to repeat what everyone else has already said.
I liked it. I really really liked it. It's been a while since I've laughed so much at a Smallville episode. Even longer since I've laughed at scenes that were actually meant to be funny. Heh.
I liked how they did the heat vision effect. I'd been afraid they'd use the dreaded red beam of light, but they used heat waves instead. Very subtle and nicely done. I also enjoyed the awkward moments between Clark and his parents, and Clark's "practice". Although, if I were Jonathan, I'd have used something less inflammable than a scarecrow. And I'd have kept a fire extinguisher close at hand...
And oh, I loved the hammock, for lots of reasons. First off, I just like hammocks in general. My mom has this beautiful hand-made hammock on her back porch, and there's nothing better than lying down on it and listening to music while watching the sun set, or the dogs play, or my little cousin running around naked :) I'll be there on Thursday, yay! I'll be sure to post a picture so you can all envy me ;)
Another reason I liked the hammock, is that it inspired lots of fanfic! My favorite so far is
tresca's birthday ficlet. Very funny :)
But the biggest reason is that Clark looked so... comfortable in it. It was the first time that I remember him being shown in the barn and not moping, or worring, or brooding over Lana. He just seemed relaxed. Like he's finally coming to terms with who he is.
Or maybe I'm overanalysing the wee 2 seconds that he was actually in the hammock :) And it was probably unintentional, anyway. But still, I liked it. It made a nice contrast with Lex, who seems to be more unsure of himself with each episode, considering that every big decision he's made so far has been dead wrong. Poor Lex.
That's it, I guess. I won't mention Martha or Lana or Chloe because everyone's already analysed them to bits. I just have to say that I'm enjoying very much this new and improved Lana Lang. More jaded and sarcastic, less innocent (says the person's who's been considered innocent and sweet by just about every quiz I've taken). Huh. I might actually have to stop complaining about here. Who am I gonna complain about now??
Hmmm... Maybe Chloe, if she doesn's stop bitching soon.

on 2002-10-07 07:05 pm (UTC)I totally agree. I thought it was subtle enough such that we as an audience would understand what was going on, but the characters wouldnt see it. Especially in the scene in the Talon where the bursts of flame look very much like they do in the comics.
Well done WB..

on 2002-10-09 07:37 am (UTC)Seriously, though, I still like this effect. Better than X-Ray vision. Definitely better than the slow-mo Matrix-like effect. God, I hate that one.

Definitely better than x-ray vision. I kind of like the slow-mo effect because TW makes such ridiculous faces...
