Break down

*sob*

I can't do this. I just can't.

It's not possible to keep up with three mailing lists (one of which sends a total of 100 posts a *day*), read my entire friends list here at LJ, beta for the people I promised I'd beta, read all the great fanfic and watch all the great videos in three different fandoms, develop all the programs I said I'd develop (just got myself into another one-- I don't understand how this happened, I was sitting quietly in my corner and the next minute my hands had written an email volunteering), write all the stuff I want to write in my journal and, you know, work. And have a life. And all that *other* stuff that exists offline.

Yup. This is me, having a breakdown.

So. I put all my lists on digest, which doesn't *really* change anything, since I still read all the emails, except that I don't get depressed when I see the "You have 253 unread emails" on my mailbox. I've made a list of the things that I still need to do, so that at the very least I can keep organized. And I unfriended a few people. Sorry, guys, but really, there was no way I could keep up. I might unfriend a few more today, because I see absolutely *no* difference on the length of my friends page...

On other (not so good) news, my old hard drive has apparently died. This time it was *my* hard drive, not my mom's. All my Premiere projects? Gone. All my Smallville eps? Also gone. All my mp3s, installed programs, downloaded fanfics, *everything*? GONE.

I think I'll go cry in a corner now...

But before I go...
Although your first name of Mariana has created an expressive, fun-loving nature, it has not produced the qualities necessary for a full and complete life. You have always been a happy person, and, desiring to see others happy as well, you strive to inspire others, which you do most effectively through an engaging sense of humour. You are fond of surprises and are quick to respond to spontaneous invitations which promise a good time, particularly when they relieve you of a boring task. Your dislike for monotony and routine, often means that you do not finish the things you start. A natural rhythm, a sense of colour harmony, and creative ability contribute to a flair for composition and artistic and musical expression. Expression comes easily to you; in fact, you should learn to control it and discipline your expression. You are not practical where money matters are concerned, your theory being that money is there to be spent. You are kind and generous, and will fill a need when you see it; at times, others take advantage of your generosity. The most serious drawback of the influence of this name is in the strong emotional feelings that it produces, which are difficult to control and create lack of stability in your thinking or in your affairs. A craving for sweet foods could cause skin conditions or liver problems. You would find it difficult to control your desires and could over-indulge in your pleasures.

That's eerily accurate. Scary. Rhi, you'd better choose wee!Rhi's name carefully :)

Maricats,

You poor thing. Me and [livejournal.com profile] velvetglove wondered what happened to you.

*hides under desk*

I've printed out velvetglove's story and have made notes on the side, I just have to somehow send them over to her. Gosh, I'm so embarrassed :P

The comforting thing about fannish email lists is that if you wait a little while, they just start talking about the same stuff they already talked about before, so you don't really miss anything. It's just delayed. Set them to No Mail and quit worrying :-)

Bummer about the hard drive. I was there, I remember the horror. Maybe some tech genius can save it? Good luck!

Hee :) They *do* seem to be cyclic, don't they? I followed your suggestion :) I'm now down to one list, basically. Yay!

As for the HD, hubby managed to save all the data files, which means basically all the project files and smallville eps. I did lose Premiere, though, but I can probably dl it over at my mom's and burn it into a CD. But! I now have a working computer, and can watch Firefly!

I know the feeling of being overwhelmed well. Sometimes it helps to set limits. I hope we aren't going to lose you entirely, but do what you need to do.

So much sympathy about the hard drive. That's awful! ((hugs))

Thanks so much for the sympathies. I don't think I could ever give this up, but still, I *do* have to hold myself back some, or I'll end up burning out :P

Awww....

I so know how you feel. Poor woobie. *hugs* I have digest on all the lists I have and quite frankly I'm thinking of going Fiction Only on Clark/Lex because you know sometimes it IS too much.

I've just about stopped reading fanfics altogether :P No time! And, you know, reading porn at work is inviting bad luck, especially when it's a new job with a whole bunch of men :)

Thanks for the hugs, hon!

*Hugs* I know this breakdown well, I had the same thing happen to me the other week. I had to set all my lists to web only, and decided that I didn't need to read every single piece of fanfic that crosses my threshold. It just wasn't possible. It feels much better now.

Also, don't know if you know about this option: if there are certain people you'd like to keep on your friends list, but whose journals you only read occasionally, you can set up a filter (http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=102) so those people don't appear on your friends view.

Thankyouthankyouthankyou! You're a lifesaver (quite possibly literally ;) ).

Hmm... So *that's* how people manage to keep up with a 200+ friends list? :)
