Ok, BIG update here. Lots of stuff happened in the last week or so... But first of all, Happy Birthday, [ profile] wook! Hope your day's wonderful :)

I watched "The Ring" this weekend. Mildly disappointing... Although Samara's kind of creepy if you think about her for long enough.

I got my computer to work! Well, actually, hubby did. We bought a nice nobreak (good thing, too, my building is constantly having energy peaks), and new speakers, and now everything's working! Yay! And! Hubby managed to save all my Premiere projects and Smallville eps, and the Premiere installation files. And! AND! He got us a 40GB hard drive! I'm in vidding heaven at the moment... :)

Thanks to [ profile] bonibaru, I watched the first episode of Firefly (it works, boni!). Loved it! I'll be spending the rest of the week watching the rest of the episodes, and who knows? I might even vid something if the muse whispers :) Although I'm not counting on this, especially considering the big backlog of vids in my todo list (including someone's birthday vid...). But yay! Firefly! And Jen, when are you going to finish that incredible vid you showed me, oh, 4 months ago? I still have it in my computer, you know... And it's damn good.

I spent most of the weekend playing "The Longest Journey" with my husband on the computer. It's an adventure game, and I adore the protagonist, April Ryan. She kicks ass ;) Well, not in the "Tomb Raider" way, but still, she's witty and sarcastic and just plain *fun*. I have never enjoyed playing a character as much as this :)

On the downside, and about the *only* bad thing that's happened these past days (other than the slight depression you guys witnessed), "Black & White" refuses to work on my computer. I've been waiting to play that for almost a year now. I have the CDs, the manuals, everything. But apparently there's some sort of incompatibility either with my video card or with Win2K, or with my video card running on Win2K. Frustrating. Gah.

I have discovered (and fallen in love with) Dave Matthews Band and Train. I've been listening to them for *hours* today, and can't seem to tire. "Angel" rings of Chlark to me, and I just love "Drops of Jupiter". Yay for new favorite bands! And yay for my sister for showing them to me :)

Well, that's about it... Not really that much, come to think of it... Today's a new Smallville episode (new for me, anyway). I'm having the greatest time watching Smallville for the first time on TV, withough spoilers. I might start doing this permanently :)

Nah, who am I kidding? As soon as I get a decent internet connection at home, I'll go back to downloading from the 'net ;)

I woke up today with A-Ha music in my head. What is *wrong* with me?

Watched Lineage yesterday, finally... Amazing. I think I've come to a conclusion about Smallville: it *is* a good show, but it's stretched to death. It feels like people don't want things to happen too fast, so they put in filling episodes in between the ones that actually have plots. All the crappy episodes are the ones that either a) don't have plots *at all* (or at least none that matter); or b) seem to just hammer the same plots that have been presented in actual plot-driven episodes. Eventually I'll make a more thorough analysis of this to see if this works...

One thing that caught my attention in Lineage is how much wee!Clark looks like Tom Welling. Amazing :)

Also, I've come to the conclusion that most of you had already come to: Lionel *is* the devil. Damn. Next vidding project: "Sympathy for the Devil". Oh yes. I've been putting it off because the song's too complicated and too long (it's almost 7 minutes, but I think I can shorten it quite a bit), but Lionel *deserves* to have his own vid.

Ok, so it's not my *next* vid. I have two important vids to make first, but it's right after those :)

Okay, y'all blame this on [ profile] barbana (heh, thought I'd forgotten, didn't you? :) ). See, she challenged me. And I never back down on a challenge. But this one was damn hard...

After I put up the lyrics meme ("answer these questions using lyrics from one band"), she made the following comments:

Barbana: I think it would be interesting to try that again only limiting yourself to not only the one band but only one ALBUM too.
Maricats: Can it be a double album? A compilation CD?
Barbana: No, and no greatest hits either. *BEG*

So, here it is. I answered using lyrics from "(What's the Story) Morning Glory?" by Oasis (and I seem to have a thing for British bands...)

Are you male or female?
She's electric

Yeah, I'm female. Darn. I didn't want to reuse the lyrics from "She's Electric", but I saw no way out of this one...

Describe yourself.
She's electric
She's in a family full of eccentrics
She done things I never expected

Especially the part about family *g*

How do they feel about you?
And time as it stands
Won't be held in my hands
Or living inside of my skin
And as it fell from the sky
I asked myself why
Can I never let anyone in?

How do you feel about yourself?
I think I've got a feeling I've lost inside
I think I'm gonna take me away and hide
I'm thinking things that I just can't abide

Describe your girlfriend/boyfriend.
Because maybe
You're gonna be the one that saves me?
And after all
You're my wonderwall

What would you rather be doing?
Today's the day that all the world will see
Another sunny afternoon
Walking to the sound of my favourite tune

Describe where you live.
Slip inside the eye of your mind
Don't you know you might find
A better place to play

Describe how you love
He walks along the open road of love and life
Surviving if he can

Share a few words of wisdom
You gotta roll with it
You gotta take your time
You gotta say what you say
Don't let anybody get in your way

Don't ever stand aside
Don't ever be denied
You wanna be who you'd be

That's a damn good record. I hadn't listened to it in a while... It's not my favorite by far, but it's the only one I found by a band that had something resembling answers to all the questions above. Coherent answers, that actually matched my mood and life. And trust me, I tried. I tried REM, Pink Floyd, Bon Jovi, Genesis, so many I don't even remember. The one that got the closest was Beth Nielsen Chapman's "Sand and Water", but she's not a band...

So yeah. I did it. I feel good :)

Hehehe. Your turn, [ profile] barbana. *eg*

Watched the premiere of "Birds of Prey" today. The new seasons are just starting this week here in the Latin American WB. They spelled it "Birds of Pray". Gah. Oh well.

I liked it ok. Nothing fantastic so far, although I totally love Huntress :) But, you know, I miss Batman. I like Batman. Why'd he have to leave Gotham? *pout*

I have vidding burn-out. Which was bound to happen, I guess, after trying to cram four vids in 2 weeks *sigh* Nothing that a month or so away from my computer shouldn't fix :)

Anyway, I spent the day listening to music. Just, you know, listening. Not thinking about it, just enjoying. And damn, that is so good. I love music. It's like food for the soul (which is corny, but totally true).

If I should die this very moment, I wouldn't fear
For I've never known completeness like being here
Wrapped in the warmth of you, loving every breath of you
Still my heart this moment or it might burst
Could we stay right here til the end of time, til the earth stops turning
Gonna love you til the seas run dry
I've found the one I've waited for

All this time I've loved you and never known your face
All this time I've missed you and searched this human race
Here is true peace, here my heart knows calm
Safe in your soul, bathed in your sighs
Wanna stay right here til the end of time, til the earth stops turning
Gonna love you til the seas run dry
I've found the one I've waited for
The one I've waited for

All I've known, all I've done, all I've felt was leading to this
All I've known, all I've done, all I've felt was leading to this
Wanna stay right here til the end of time, til the earth stops turning
Gonna love you til the seas run dry
I've found the one I've waited for
The one I've waited for

So... My mom's computer, while sucking in all other aspects, has a CD burner. And I've decided to make a compilation CD of SV-related songs. *New* songs. And by new, I mean anything from the 90s on ;) It's really time that I updated my musical selection a little bit... The last CD I bought was Metallica's "Load", and that was way back in 1996. In fact, I think I got it as a gift :P

Suggestions for the CD are much appreciated :)

This is my first meme. I've never really been inclined to do any before, but you know, I'm a music junkie... This one was just *begging* me to do it. So I did :)

I wanted to use Frank Sinatra, but the anal-retentive inside me was whining that Frank is not only *not* a band, but actually an interpreter (as in, he has no songs of his own), so that wouldn't be really fair. So I used The Beatles instead.

Here goes...

Are you male or female?
She's a woman who understands
She's a woman who loves her man

Describe yourself.
...And I'm not what I appear to be
Although I laugh and I act like a clown
Beneath this mask I am wearing a frown
My tears are falling like rain from the sky

How do they feel about you?
Day after day, alone on the hill
The man with the foolish grin is keeping perfectly still
But nobody wants to know him
They can see that he's just a fool
As he never gives an answer
But the fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down
And the eyes in his head
See the world spinning round

How do you feel about yourself?
Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to be free

Describe your girlfriend/boyfriend.
Dear Prudence, won't you come out to play?
Dear Prudence, greet the brand new day
The sun is up, the sky is blue
It's beautiful and so are you
Dear Prudence, won't you come out to play?

He's actually a guy, but he's, um, prudent :) And he doesn't come out to play much.

What would you rather be doing?
When I wake up early in the morning
Lift my head, I'm still yawning
When I'm in the middle of a dream
Stay in bed, float upstream
Please don't wake me, no don't shake me
Leave me where I am, I'm only sleeping

Hey, I did this at 4am in the morning...

Describe where you live
There is a place
Where I can go
When I feel low
When I feel blue
And it's my mind
And there's no time when I'm alone

In my mind there's no sorrow
Don't you know that it's so
There'll be no sad tomorrow
Don't you know that it's so

Describe how you love
I want her everywhere
And if she's beside me I know I need never care
But to love her is to need her everywhere
Knowing that love is to share
Each one believing that love never dies
Watching her eyes
And hoping I'm always there

You have to switch the gender here :)

Share a few words of wisdom
When I find myself in times of trouble
Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom
Let it be

This was uncannily insightful... I liked this meme. Make more!

Right now, I'm sitting in my old room in my mom's house. It's not the room I grew up in, though, my parents only moved into this house a year before I got married. But still, all my stuff is here. My stuffed animals, my riding gear, boxes full of letters from old friends, pictures, books. Even old records. Madonna, U2, A-Ha, New Kids on the Block... *ahem* I think we can stop now *g*

I love looking through old things, remembering friends, boyfriends, situations... Memories are the best thing. I can never throw anything away, because I always have to go through everything to try to see if there's anything important there that I might want to keep. And then I start remembering, and I get this feeling that *everything* in there is important. Everything is a little bit of memory. And so I'm an incurable packrat...

The most interesting discovery, however, was in my bedside table drawer. A book called "Sex Tips for Girls: All the Things Your Mother Really Never Told You". Now, this book was published in 1983. I was only 6 years old then. I have absolutely no idea how this book ended up in my hands, and quite frankly, I don't wanna know. The options are way too disturbing :P

But I have very clear memories of the first time I read it. I was around 14 years old, and unnaturally innocent even for that age. The book scared me half to death. Really. I re-read it yesterday, and it's not that bad. I mean, the book is pretty bad, but it's not that scary anymore. Of course, I now actually know what she's talking about, so that helps :)

I think I'll go lie down in the hammock and re-read "The Chronicles of Narnia" for the umpteenth time. That's a less traumatic journey through my childhood :)

This sent me on a musical trip: Rolling Stone Magazine put up a list of the top 100 records of all time. I've discovered that I have 9 of them in CDs, and 9 of them on LPs. See, Jen? I'm not that young! I have LPs! ;)

Also, there are about 30 or 40 that I have now decided I absolutely must acquire... You can check out the list here.

On other news, a new quiz:

What Eyes Do You Have?

brought to you by Quizilla

Huh. Innocent and unsuspecting. Didn't see that coming...
